It all happened yesterday.

The morning news -On the front page of ‘Southend Echo’ “Six arrests as police target suspected Somali gang.

Police find what they believe to be ‘A’ class drugs”.

The evening news- Kursaal Tory councillors vote to give themselves more money in allowances. (Minutes of the Full Council Meeting,15.07.2010)

Not as random as it first appears.

Neither  the gang or the councillors have their home in the Kursaal area, they all live somewhere else. ( www.southend.gov.uk/P5 Southend Echo)

Living here is fine, but you can’t disguise the impact of lots of private rented accommodation and high density housing.

People live up close to one another.

As resident you feel and see the impact of what happens here.

If you don’t live here, how do you know what it’s like?

Tory councillors don’t live here.

So they have voted to give themselves more money.

Why because now they cannot claim expenses to travel to the places where they don’t live.

So you and I now pay Kursaal Conservative councillors to leave their homes in nice conservation areas and Thorpe Bay to visit us in Kursaal so they can see what its like to live here.

Bizarre?

I would be interested to hear his thoughts on you telling him he is unable to represent the ward given he does not live in the ward. As it happens, fellow Labour Cllrs Borton, Gilbert and Norman may also have a view on the subject as none of them live in the ward they represent.

  2. [...] have experienced the last point, as I took the trouble to make a comment about one particular post some time ago, and it still has not appeared on the blog. I would have left it alone there, but [...]
